Live @ The State Theater Sunday, June 20th, 04
I have to admit, I did think the Supersuckers were a ska band. Maybe even a punk act. Hey, this was The State Theater for crying out loud! Punk acts come and go weekly and I'm sure that the old Mighty, Mighty Bosstones have graced the stage once or twice. But as I waited to get my $12 ticket, I was passed by the band themselves. They walked on in as if they had free tickets or something ( I wasn't sure they were the band, they didn't look punk to me ). They were dressed pretty much like the logo above. Little did I know that I was about to see a band that Lemmy from MOTORHEAD once quoted, "If you don't like the Supersuckers, you don't like Rock-N-Roll."  Well, Lemmy was right. As the self proclaimed "Greatest Rock-N-Roll band in the World", these guys DID rock and they DID roll! Mix in some extreame Country influences, and you have one of the best well rounded and talented acts out there. The Supersuckers didn't suck as they gave us two sets, the first starting out with the lead singer, Eddie Spaghetti, playing acoustic solo, then later joined by the band. The tone was ever so slowly creeping faster as I began to think that I was at a Rockabilly show, but the second set made me forget all about that. To say that they rocked would be an understatement. They flowed like the Mississippi river. It was effortless. With no fake encore, no crappy oppening band, clever and humorous interaction with the crowd ("I want you to make some noise like it's 1985 and we are at a Def Leppard concert"), this was one of the best shows Downtown Pete has seen in a long time. Thanks for giving all of us a great night, guys.
